In an act of the purest optimism, we have replaced Fanny the goldfish RIP with two new fish.
This in spite of the fact that the pond is still somewhat murky and we haven’t really got to the bottom of the unpopular fish food. The story goes like this: I ordered a container of the popular fish food online, checking that the product photo was the same. Lo and behold, when it arrived, it was instead an enormous container of the unpopular stuff. So, I took an offspring and went to the bricks and mortar store one afternoon last week to try and sort it out. Well, I’m told by the manager who was sitting faceless in a back office, via a lackey at the counter, that the company has changed the product and the old stuff is no longer available. They offered to take it back but as I need something to (try to) feed the fish with, I’m holding onto it. While we were there, we had a look at the fish in their tanks. I’m told by my more knowledgeable offspring that the fish were the healthiest they’d seen in a pet store, and it was almost a shame to take any away from their happy home. Nonetheless, clearly Mudwiggle and Jackie are lonely and need more piscine companionship (anthropomorphising much?). Needless to say, what could be better than one new friend, and that’s two new friends. Following the sad family trend of choosing the weirdest looking pets, we now have a replacement for Edward, the disturbingly sparkly nude fish, with one that looks even more ugly, if that’s possible, with soulless black eyes (à la Ratdog, and the mother in Coraline). I did get to choose a pretty little golden one also, although it’s a bit small to my eyes. Anyway, here they are just before their release:
They are currently nameless so if you’ve got any suggestions for these successors to Edward and Fanny, I’m all ears. Having been burnt by previous embarrassing episodes, I will not be accepting Vajayjay as an option.
