We were having dinner outside on a lovely Hawkes Bay evening a couple of nights ago, discussing plans for our upcoming impromptu trip.
We were talking about spending a few days in Ohakune when my brother in law asked “How will you drive there?” There was a brief pause and then my daughter Samantha and I both replied at the exact same time “On the road”. Everyone laughed, but for me it was a profound experience. People tell me we look alike, but here was undeniable proof that we had exactly the same sense of humour.
My work here is done.
I should perhaps explain Hamish’s question, lest we lose sight of that. Some people would suggest going via Taupo as the more well travelled route, but his vote, as previously explained, was for the Gentle Annie: gorgeous but far less frequented. He might have been mildly annoyed by our silly tandem reply, but he’s far too well bred to let it show.
