Accidentally stayed late at work on my office day yesterday (virtue signaling),
so I was in a bit of a hurry when I got to the car park in the hospital basement to retrieve my scooter. I was cutting it fine to get home in time for a quick spruce up before meeting family for dinner. Imagine my dismay when I found this:
I had mixed feelings. Arrgh Hunter nooooo! But also, thank goodness you did, plus – what kind of idiot am I??
Hunter didn’t answer his phone the first two times, but when he did, he was already at home. It was OK, though – he’d left it in a secure location on his ward, 6 East. I’d never even heard of 6 East! I know they built the ‘new’ hospital too small, and had been trying to squeeze extra beds into every nook and cranny – but no one ever comes to theatre from 6 East. Must be some sort of medical ward, then? Hunter, bless him, wouldn’t reveal the secret location until I could tell him what else was on the key ring. That was a toughie as I’ve got several key rings, but I could tell he wasn’t impressed with my excuses. The Vespa tag I’ve got on there wasn’t the one he was thinking of, unfortunately. It’s a remnant of a very cute aqua blue Vespa I bought years ago that I traded in almost immediately because it rode like a pig.
I struck it lucky when I took a punt on it being a glass evil eye, because I bought several of them on a trip to Turkey some years ago and haven’t managed to give them all away.
Why are hospitals all dreadful rabbit warrens? I found 6 East and my keys easily enough but got lost several times on my way back to the parking level, including one very stressful detour into The House of Screaming Sheilas AKA birthing suite.
In the end I had to go directly to predinner drinks, abandoning my plan for a change of outfit and general tidy up of my person. Serves me right for leaving my keys in the ignition. Thank goodness for Hunter!
