It was my fortnightly long day at work today, 7:30 to 22:30 theoretically but I usually manage to sneak away before ten if things aren’t too busy in theatre.
Much of my day is spent supervising, which gives me potentially plenty of time to catch up on computer work if needed. Today’s task was trying to find a replacement for the pendant I lost this morning. It was only available for a limited time from the original store, so it was a matter of scouring the internet for alternative sources, new or second hand.
I finally struck it lucky around 8 pm with a jewellery store I’ve never heard of but is apparently somewhere in New Zealand, and happens to have a stash of the pendants available in their warehouse. And on sale, too! It was a simple on line order so it should be winging its way to my house within days.
My luck continued when I got home. I’d asked Simon to have a look around the house to see if it was anywhere here, but he’d been too busy watching a documentary about physics that he wanted to tell me about. As I wandered around the house, looking at the floor while he talked at me about something to do with quantum mechanics, I spotted the pendant right there on the carpet outside our bedroom door. Obviously the clasp had failed within moments of me putting it on, but somehow the chain had stayed around my neck for my entire commute to work, only slipping off onto the chair in front of me when I finally sat down in my office. Amazing!
You could be pedantic and say my two pieces of luck have rather cancelled each other out, since I’ve now ended up with two identical pendants. But I would disagree. At the rate I’ve been losing items of jewellery lately, the more double ups the better!
