I could have also called this post “careless days”, another clever bit of wordplay on one possible governmental intervention into our precarious petroleum supply. Of course, as an EV owner, I’m somewhat insulated from the direct effects of petrol price shocks. I hear that some EV owners are posting smug memes on social media, but as the owner of a Tesla I’m trying to keep a low profile. For some reason, they are the EV that ICE drivers hate the most, and it’s not all because Elon is the most repellent man on the planet. (Honestly, how does he have so many children with so many different women? I suppose being the richest man on the planet might go some way to explaining it. ) It seems Teslas are the BMW of the EV world. I’m very keen that my car doesn’t get torched by an angry mob, especially as it’s got those disappearing door handles that give it both a beautiful sleek profile and also a well deserved reputation as a death trap. It seems that if the car loses power you can’t even open the doors from the inside, not an appealing feature in a machine with a battery that burns hotter than the sun.
You may find this hard to believe, but I can remember carless days from the first time around, although I can’t remember what day my parents chose. My father in law, on the other hand, was in the sweet position of having two cars, a rarity in those days. One was a 4WD for the farm. I’m told he decided to choose the same carless day for both cars, in order to do the right thing and not cheat. No record of what my mother in law thought of this, sadly.
