The move has been a great success so far: even though it’s only been 15 minutes I have a good feeling about it.
Simon’s health continues to improve. The restaurant has been very good, preparing no fat versions of meals for him every night, but since he’s feeling better he’s gradually easing up on the strictness of his diet. He’s told the restaurant he’s going back to the regular menu as of tomorrow. I’m grateful, partly because his meals really haven’t looked that appetizing, but also because I don’t think it’s a good long term health strategy to get the majority of your calories from alcohol. He tells me it’s the 4th major food group but I’m not convinced.
We have an elderly English couple who sit next to us at meals. The husband seems very mild mannered and inoffensive but Simon’s is convinced he’s dementing. The wife is the more forceful of the two. She was telling me how much she enjoyed the comedian whose show we saw before dinner. All very clean, far better than all these comedians you see on the TV who swear every second word. I didn’t disagree, he was just the sort of entertainer my dad used to like, lots of innuendo and jokes about ’the wife’ but no actual swearing.
It surprised me then when she was talking about the tour of Tromsø they did yesterday, she thought it was very good: “they didn’t give too many fucks”, which made me raise my eyebrows. It wasn’t until a few minutes later I realized her posh accent had made me mishear the word “facts”.
She had also been bemoaning earlier in the week about missing the aurora, so I’d asked Simon to specifically tell her that there was a good one last night. She was talking about it at dinner tonight. Unfortunately she hadn’t been able to turn the flash off on her phone, and a number of people had told her off for shining bright lights in their eyes, which destroys your night vision for some minutes afterwards. I rolled my eyes when she told that story, but I have to say her photos were at least as good if not better than mine, so maybe she was onto something.
