A better class this week hooray!
At first I thought I’d try and protect myself from our instructor’s penetrating, critical gaze by hiding amongst the squad – a group of like minded colleagues that are old pros at the yoga game. Unfortunately, this ploy was soon exposed as fruitless, when Tessa called me out for my first infraction within the first five minutes. “Here we go!” I thought to myself, and indeed, I was called out more than anyone else during the class, although the hapless Richard came a close second. He has a bad back which he struggles to hide, and his grimaces always draw the teacher’s eye.
On the other hand, when Tessa said she’d like to be able to nail our hands to the floor, even while acknowledging such an action would likely be frowned upon, it was aimed at the whole class, and not just me. And in addition, it wasn’t me but another member of the squad who asked whether we should start the next pose with our right foot, which turned out to be quite triggering. Apparently for all of its 2,500 year history, yoga has always started each move with the right foot. Who knew? Not me or my friend, seemingly. It turns out there is such a thing as a stupid question after all.
So, all of this plus some challenging stretches and poses, and only falling over once, makes for a successful session. Have I turned the corner at last? I will keep you posted.
