Wore reading glasses for the first time in anger this morning.
I’ve used them in the past as magnifying glasses, for example looking for nits in my daughters’ hair (Thank God those days are over), but this was the first time just for reading.
To be fair, the font on the Guardian app on my iPad mini is minuscule, but still. I should have known this was coming when I had to increase the font size on my kindle a few months ago.
Ah well, it’s come later for me than for many of my contemporaries, so for that I should be grateful (I don’t mind suffering if others are suffering more – that’s called being human).
The tricky part will be when I have to wear them for close up work in my job – putting drips in, or intubating people. Do you think Simon would let me retire then, or would he make me wear bifocals? It’s a whole new (blurry) world out there for me, my friends.
