Well, our nanny and I have finally had \u2018The Talk\u2019 : \u201cWe think it might be time to start thinking about cutting down your hours\u201d. N has been fabulous for our family, a real treasure. She\u2019s like an idealized grandmother, far more useful than any of our actual parents were. Over the years she\u2019s gradually morphed into more of a housekeeper, but she\u2019s still been someone who\u2019s always around for the girls to talk to. \u00a0Still, now that our youngest are about to go to university, it\u2019s getting harder to justify a full time nanny – especially as she\u2019s nearing eighty.
