Today we depart Fiji. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s been a great holiday. So nice to spend some quality time together in a relaxed atmosphere. The highlight, strangely enough, was probably watching the super rugby final, which was unexpectedly one sided with our local team The Hurricanes absolutely blowing away the opposition, The Chiefs. We watched it together at the resort bar on our second night, and it was great fun.<\/p>\n
If you asked the young people, they might give a different answer, though. After our final snorkel yesterday evening, as we were walking back along the beach to our resort, we were following behind a woman riding a horse, who seemed to be surrounded by an entourage who were filming her. Well, we\u2019ve seen a few influencers around this week, so this wasn\u2019t too surprising. I never saw her face, but several of the offspring thought she was beautiful and looked a lot like Megan Thee Stallion. Then, over dinner last night, after we watched a local fire dancing display, including one young man briefly setting fire to his skirt – not a planned move, I gathered – someone checked the singer\u2019s Facebook page and discovered that it actually was her. Cue great excitement from the younger members of our group, although Simon and I remained unmoved.<\/p>\n
After dinner we watched a film together, an old collaboration between Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino called Terror Planet or something similar. It was surprisingly entertaining, considering it bombed at the box office. The perfect finish to our holiday, until I was woken this morning to the sounds of someone throwing up in the bathroom. Simon wanted to know if I had any ondansetron, as he thought he had norovirus. Horrors! We had a full days travelling ahead of us. Luckily no one else has been sick, and after an emergency dash to the nearest pharmacy for appropriate medications, we set off for the hour long drive to the airport. I have been feeling headachy, with a gurgling stomach, ever since I woke up, but thank goodness I haven\u2019t developed any D and V so far, so hopefully I\u2019m just imagining it. What could be worse than having D and V on a plane? We made it to the airport and Simon is surviving so far, after a quick trip to the bathroom. The poor man looks shattered. I think if it had been me I would have refused to leave the resort. Luckily and coincidentally he managed to get himself an upgrade, so I hope he\u2019s doing OK up there in premium economy. As time goes by without any illness declaring itself, I\u2019m getting more confident that I\u2019ve managed to get away without catching it. Fingers crossed, but it\u2019s more drama than I was hoping for at the end of our trip. To think that last night my major worry was travel disruptions due to some appalling weather back in NZ.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
