This may not come as a surprise but I\u2019m a bit of a magpie when it comes to jewellery.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t need expensive jewels, but sparkly is my preference. Lately I\u2019ve rediscovered Swarovski which suits my needs perfectly. I found some pretty blue crescent moon earrings a couple of weeks ago and last week got the matching necklace to complete the set (all on sale, I might add). The pendant is also cute but I\u2019m a bit wary of wearing it.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"Not only am I pathologically afraid of being too \u201cmatchy matchy\u201d when I wear it with the earrings, a sure sign of Boomerism, we\u2019re told, but I\u2019m also disturbed by its Astronomical inaccuracy. You see, it depicts a star in front of the crescent moon, which is physically impossible. Just consider, the moon is just 384,400 kilometres away, whereas the sun is 150 million kilometres away. In fact, the diameter of the sun, a typical yellow dwarf, is 1.4 million kilometres. This means if there was a star in front of the moon, we\u2019d be engulfed within it. Yes, there are smaller stars: a neutron star is only around 20 kilometres \u00a0in diameter, but considering its mass is even greater than our sun, the effects of its proximity would be equally ghastly. (Hint: gravity). Let\u2019s not even go there.<\/p>\n

So, the pendant\u2019s design is about as accurate as a kindergartener\u2019s scribbled picture of the night sky. Perhaps I should refuse to wear it on principle, making a stand against the general dumbing down of the global population? On the other hand, who\u2019s going to be looking that closely?
