Part of the fascination of watching it out the window is imagining being a kid again and the whole site being a giant playground, although I\u2019ve never seen any children down there.
\nIt reminds me of the extensive building works at the psychiatric hospital behind our house when I was young. I expect there were fences and \u2018keep out\u2019 signs, but my siblings and I just ignored them every evening and weekend when we just roamed around, exploring. There was one tower block that was a particular magnet for us. There weren\u2019t any stairs, so we had to climb up the scaffolding to get to the higher floors. The best fun I can remember was the hose that seemed to be securely attached somewhere further up, that we used to grab hold of and swing around the sides of the building on, like suburban Tarzans. We were at least four floors up so I expect this fits firmly under the title of OSH hazard. Where were our parents all this time? Well, five unruly offspring are very hard to keep track of. There was that time I trod on a rusty nail sticking out from a steel girder high up in the air, that I was walking on as a bridge to cross from one building to another. I had to perch there, holding onto my impaled foot, while one of my brothers went to fetch a parent, and it did seem to take a very long time for them to arrive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
