We were having dinner outside on a lovely Hawkes Bay evening a couple of nights ago, discussing plans for our upcoming impromptu trip.
\nWe were talking about spending a few days in Ohakune when my brother in law asked \u201cHow will you drive there?\u201d There was a brief pause and then my daughter Samantha and I both replied at the exact same time \u201cOn the road\u201d. Everyone laughed, but for me it was a profound experience. People tell me we look alike, \u00a0but here was undeniable proof that we had exactly the same\u00a0<\/em>sense of humour.

I should perhaps explain Hamish\u2019s question, lest we lose sight of that. Some people would suggest going via Taupo as the more well travelled route, but his vote, as previously explained, was for the Gentle Annie: gorgeous but far less frequented.
