I did a personality quiz a few years ago which showed that I rated highly on conscientiousness.<\/p>\n
This means I hardly ever have trouble getting around to doing something I have to do, much to my offspring\u2019s dismay.
\nThere are exceptions of course, like the novel I\u2019ve been meaning to write the last couple of years. When I do want to procrastinate, my lack of practice means I have limited ways of postponing stuff. I know traditionally \u201ca woman\u2019s work is never done\u201d but since I\u2019ve outsourced the two most common and tedious household chores – cooking to my husband, cleaning to my son who has developed it as a hobby, thank my lucky stars – I have limited options there. To be honest I\u2019ve never found it hard to avoid wasting my time cleaning, being cursed (blessed?) with a condition I call dirt blindness. I\u2019ve had it all my life. I remember having a friend to stay when I was ten. She couldn\u2019t sleep because of the state of my bedroom, for some reason she found it so disturbing that she couldn\u2019t see the floor for discarded clothes and other detritus that sleep eluded her. I tried to understand but I was so tired I fell asleep while she was still tidying. Mind you, this is my old friend who has since become an antivax naturopath, so perhaps cleanliness isn\u2019t the virtue people try to make it out to be.
\nIt\u2019s a gorgeous day today, so I\u2019ve been catching up on all my washing. Obviously I have to exercise the dogs also, and so we\u2019ve just been for a swim and a walk on the beach. I wasted a useful hour picking grass seeds out of Max\u2019s coat yesterday but we avoided that area today. However, the best time waster of the weekend so far has been a terrific book recommended to me on Friday (The Humans by Matt Haig). I started it this morning and am already 72% of the way through according to my kindle. It\u2019s just got to a section I\u2019m not loving so much which is why I\u2019m writing this.
\nIt\u2019s 4:30 already and by the time I finish this, bring the washing in, make the beds and water the garden, it\u2019ll be cocktail hour, and then time for dinner and Christmas movie or two.
\nWhy am I like this? Oh well, surely there are enough books in the world as it is, am I right?<\/p>\n
ps. I forgot to mention, I deleted facebook from my phone the other day which has freed up an enormous amount of time. I wish I\u2019d done it sooner, although there is the occasional feeling of FOMO, I must confess. But so worth it!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
