Got away from our Airbnb in what we believed was good time.

What a great day.

Got the car eventually. We waited 90 minutes in the queue but then they ended up being very helpful. We’d hired a car that was unfortunately too small for the needs of our voluminous suitcases. We now have a Peugeot SUV with an extremely capacious boot.

Have been queuing for an hour at the Avis office in Lisbon.

Another spectacular meal at a local restaurant. Last night it was a multi course degustation with wine matching at a Michelin starred restaurant. Extraordinary anda bit Emperors New Clothes to be honest, with a price to match. Ah well, it wasn’t as if I had any firm plans to retire anytime soon.

At dinner last night we were introduced to another classic Portuguese dish that I can’t believe I haven’t tried before: pica pau.

I wrote a lot today but I completely forgot to describe our Fado night last night.

More heavy rain this morning.

Simon finally fessed up in London that he’s no good with maps.
