I forgot to mention the Frenchman we met on our walk yesterday. He lives locally, and was putting some stuff in his rubbish bin as we walked past.
How did we know he was French? Well, he told us, but we would have worked it out pretty quickly by the way he corrected our language twice in five minutes, once in Japanese and then in French.
First of all, apparently we’re greeting people wrong over here. You don’t say konichiwa (hello) in the morning, instead you say ohayo gozaimasu for good morning. The French we got wrong was to accidentally say we came from France rather than we had visited there. Honestly, he was a nice enough guy but the slightly superior attitude was completely unlike anything we’ve experienced from the Japanese themselves.
