Newsworthy

I’m trying to hit that delicate balance of being well informed whilst maintaining my mental wellbeing during the Trump era V2.

Currently I’m subscribed to the Herald and the Guardian, but I’d like a third news source for balance. Nothing too Right wing of course (I’m really struggling with my capitalisation in this post! The Guardian? right wing?). I’ve had the Economist recommended but at 599NZD per year I don’t think so! Maybe the LA Times but it seems to have too much Hollywood stuff to take seriously. The Washington Post has an illustrious history but has been tainted by Jeff Bezos. It’s bad enough owning a Tesla, I don’t need any more billionaires having an influence in my life. Currently I’m leaning towards the New York Times, which has the added benefit of intellectually stimulating games which members of my family already play, even if I don’t. I’m quite pleased my husband is making the effort to avoid dementia with word games such as spelling bee, which is his best chance to be called ‘amazing’ and a ‘genius’ on a daily basis. I think it’s important to support quality journalism with subscriptions, although clearly I don’t value it enough to pay the eye watering amounts the Economist is asking. I’m quite happy to lay out 90USD per year to save democracy but I might just check whether Simon is already a subscriber. No point just throwing money away.
