History

I was just going through all the open tabs on the browser on my phone, deleting websites as I went to get to my last blog post, and it’s quite the wee snapshot into recent events in my life.

For example, I was up in Auckland a few  weekends ago for a memorial of one of the uncles I killed recently by going away to Europe on holiday (it’s a long story). My browser history starts off happily enough, with research into things to do, opening hours of museums, recommended restaurants, etc.
But then we get to the Sunday, when we arrived at the airport to find our flight had been delayed, and then cancelled. Suddenly it’s how to get back to Wellington if you fly into other cities in the lower North Island; are there any available flights on Jetstar; and are there any cars available with any hire company to drive from Auckland to Wellington. After that, we’ve clearly signaled defeat by looking for accommodation in Auckland that night. and how much should we expect to pay for a taxi back into town. (Answer: lots).

The coup de grace is the website for Wellington airport parking, conjuring up memories of late night phone calls trying to arrange an unplanned extra day’s stay for the Tesla.

There’s a pause then until later in the evening, when we’re searching for supermarkets still open near me. Dire. Things pick up the following morning though, when I’m trying to find out where the movie “Wicked” is playing within walking distance of our apartment, and what session would allow us time to get to the airport for our new flight time.

All in all it was a great weekend for everyone apart from my poor uncle, and although I do have photos it was deleting my browser history that has brought it all back to mind.
