A quick post in honour of the French president’s visit to New Caledonia, also considered to be part of France.
As an aside, wasn’t our visit there earlier this year extremely well timed? We didn’t notice any unrest when we were there but since we spent most of our time on a tiny islet, it’s not too surprising.
Anyway, I’ve seen this meme, or various versions of it, many times:
So far, so amusant. Actually it reminds me of a previous visit to Provence when I was having dinner in a lovely little restaurant, and I had a hilarious conversation with the serveur about whether I’d ordered Le Président de la Républic for dessert, but I won’t tell you about it because it makes me sound like a wanker.
What I don’t get is why we don’t have a similar meme explaining the difference between Emmanuel and the macron itself.
The macron is of course particularly important in Te Reo Māori. I can only give a Gallic shrug in reply.
