I may be a demonstrable loser when it comes to extrasolar phenomena, but I thought something had gone well for me this week.
I got a terrible sore throat on Sunday night, which I assumed presaged a miserable week of cold symptoms, since everyone else in the house has been sick with it. After 72 hours though, it seemed to be getting better, and had never developed into anything worse. Could it be that my body had actually beaten this virus, and it wasn’t going to get any worse? I was very grateful, because I’ve had a punishing work schedule this week.
No such luck, however. This morning the snots have arrived, a full four days since that first scratchy throat. I know I’ve got out of the habit of colds since COVID, but this seems a very protracted course. I have the feeling that “indolent” is a medical term, but I’m imagining this virus as the epitome of the term. You lazy bastard! Can’t you make me sick in a “wham bam thank you ma’am” fashion? One day off work and then we can all move on.
