Another lovely day in Germany cycling along the Mosel/Moselle river.
An early start again to avoid the heat of the day but the thermometer was already creeping up when we left at 9 am. It was another day of steep vineyards and caravan parks. The cycle trails were busy but there was plenty of room for all. The paths run on both sides of the river but no matter what side you’re on, the other side looks better – or is that just me?
Morning tea (actually Kaffee und Küchen) at a pretty town, where I took care not to leave my jacket. We weren’t speeding along after that but we still reached our destination before we were in the mood for lunch.
My new favourite drink is the Hugo, which consists of elderflower liqueur (St Germain), Prosecco, soda water, a sprig of mint, and ice.
Very refreshing when the weather is hot but if you’re out of the habit of day drinking it hits quite hard so I needed a good nap after lunch.
Also useful even with a reasonably fluent German speaker on board is Google translate. No English menu? No problem!
Town was full of cyclists, and the Germans, unlike many Europeans, like to eat quite early. As result, we were back at the same restaurant only a few hours later for dinner. Good food, but no dessert, bizarrely, and as usual very reluctant to accept any payment that’s not cash. COVID just hasn’t encouraged electronic payment here the way it has elsewhere, I guess the cash habit is just too strong.
