Can I see some ID, please?

Been having fun with a fabulous new phone app that identifies living organisms in real time.

I know there are plenty of apps and websites where you can upload pictures and wait for someone to tell you what they are, but this app does it while you’re pointing your phone at the thing you want to ID. Marvelous!

Of course, it’s not perfect. You sometimes have to move your phone around a bit to see the thing from several angles.
Also, it struggles a bit with our oodles.

For one glorious moment, it thought Goofy was an alpaca , but unfortunately I didn’t manage to screen shot that in time.

Got there in the end

The plant identification has been the most useful. Finally discovered the name of this beast.

It looks a harmless enough attractive wee shrub, but actually it’s been taking over my garden, and “spurge” is a very appropriate name, sounding like an invasive disorder of some kind.
The process of registration for the app seemed to involve signing away any privacy rights, worldwide and in perpetuity, but I figure most of my phone must already be an open book to the CIA, FBI, the Russians and anyone else with a cursory interest in my personal data, so that didn’t hold me back. But I guess if government agents come to my house and turn the entire garden into a bonfire, I’ll only have myself to blame.
