World famous

Went out with a bunch of people from work the other day to celebrate the visit of celebrated American neurosurgeon.

He spent a year of his training here in Wellington so it was a chance for a catch up with a lot of familiar faces and places for him and his wife. I sat across from them at dinner and they were a very entertaining couple to spend time with.  They assured me that Trump would not become President again, and might well go to jail, and not both, so that was a relief. The couple seem to have the perfect life over in the USA, and his career in particular has gone from strength to strength. Not only is he doing a lot of important surgeries, but he’s also heavily involved in research and has published a number of articles in well respected journals. And it’s not all just serious stuff – he had an article published in The Lancet recently commenting on the TV show Scrubs.

I must say I did feel a little envious of all he’s managing to accomplish. In the meantime, here’s what I’m getting sent from LinkedIn:

I’m sick of all this attention

I was interested in some of the stuff he was doing over in the States, so I Googled him, and found the website of the University Hospital he works at. In amongst all the citations and other tedious academic bumf, I found a rating. Apparently from 167 respondents he has a score of 4.5 stars. Well, I thought, that’ll bring you down a peg or two – every Uber driver I’ve ever had has scored better than that. That cheered me up.
