It’s a quick ten minute stroll that takes him through the parliamentary district, past some important government buildings. There’s one such just at the bottom of our street that always has a security guard outside. For the first few months, Simon would just avoid making eye contact with the man, but eventually this seemed weird since it was the same guy every day. So one Monday, he looked him in the eye and said “Good Morning!” to which the man replied “Thank you and have a nice day, Sir!” which I think took them both by surprise. However, there was no going back after that, and they have now settled into a pattern of catching each other’s eye and silently nodding which I suspect will last them both until one of them retires.
