It’s a trial

Got a jury summons in the mail the other day (my husband’s dog-proofing, postal protection set up is clearly working).

I’m torn. I’d be really interested to see our justice system in action up close and personal. I’m supposed to make myself available for a couple of weeks late next month.  Trouble is, it would be a big financial hit for me, missing out two weeks of work. Plus, of every doctor I’ve ever spoken to who’s turned up for jury duty, none of them have ever been chosen, out of all the potential jurors, to sit on the actual jury. Barristers don’t like us it seems.

On balance, I’ve decided to ask my boss to write me a letter saying I’m indispensable, so that I can get out of it. When my niece (a lawyer), who is staying with us, heard this plan over dinner last night, she was very disappointed in me and told me off for undermining the system. Consider me abashed.
