Breton

There is a local and ancient language in Brittany known as Breton. It’s related to Celtic and/or Gaelic (sorry not to be more specific – I’m interested but not an expert!)

It is written on multiple of the local roadsigns.

I’m very impressed when an effort is taken to preserve old languages and customs. I’m reliably informed (by Simon) that 10% of local children learn the language at school.

As well as the language, there are old related traditions and festivals that are celebrated. Have a look at some of the costumes worn at these.

Pretty but those hats aren’t particularly practical from my point of view. How do you get through doorways? Maybe they’re used for storage?

These guys seriously impress me. Are those pantaloons or a skirt? Culottes, even? I can’t tell if he’s sitting down or just short. He seems serious about his little trumpet thing, anyway. As is the chap with the bagpipes. He’s probably glad he didn’t have to wear the bottom half of the lederhosen outfit. Anyway you can see the obvious Celtic connections. Scottish people are not to be messed with either.
