Attended a zoom lecture this evening on the nature of time.
Not sure I fully comprehended everything the speaker was trying to get across. I think he was an enthusiastic amateur rather than a bona fide expert. There was some good stuff on the history of the universe and it’s likely future (seems like eventual heat death is the current most popular theory), the block theory of the universe, relativity, entropy, quantum entanglement, and the meaninglessness of “now”. It seems quantum physicists hate the idea of time and some of them want it banned altogether. Also, it’s possible that our universe is just a 3D hologram of a 2D layer of information smeared across a black hole. So, not only is time an illusion, reality may be as well.
But, will any of this help me explain things to my boss if I get to work late tomorrow?
