Men in tights

Normally I’m a big fan of times or dates that fit some sort of numerical pattern, but I must admit 22/02/2022 – “twosday” – took me by surprise.

I guess there’s a lot going on in the world at the moment, but you must admit the date has a lovely symmetry. One of the (male, Central European) theatre nurses mentioned with horror that the kids at his son’s school had been encouraged to wear a tutu for the day. “Not my boy! Not my boy!” He grumbled as he was telling us the story. Poor little mite, I hope he isn’t a rainbow of any sort because the family dynamics might be tough – or am I reading too much into it? Maybe I’m just too woke for my own good.
The Otago university Selwyn ballet has a long tradition of men in tutus. They  have always been well schooled in the appropriate choreography, and do the dance skillfully  – my husband auditioned but didn’t get in due to general clumsiness (reading between the lines) – but it’s still played for laughs. I wonder what it’s future will be?
