The best part of the whole Novak Djokovic v Australia fiasco has been discovering his father, Srdjan (an Anglicization of his actual name which my keyboard can’t deal with).
He is a passionate supporter of his son to the point of lunacy. I’ve had to be quite ruthless in cutting down the number of bonkers quotes attributed to him in the media, but here is a selection:
And now of course it seems they might not see everyone in Paris after all, as France has decided not to give vaccination exemptions for sporting figures. How sad.
There appears to be a lot of anger in Serbia about the Djokovic situation, with suspicion that it’s politically motivated – which it quite possibly is – but oh dear! not against Serbia, which I would defy anyone to find on a map. I’ve been to the Balkans before, and even I had to just google whether Serbia was even in the Balkans.
Luckily the news cycle has allowed the subject to drift out of the headlines, so the risk of it triggering World War Three has diminished considerably. Let’s just draw a curtain over the whole sorry saga, shall we?
Poor Novak ……an oxymoron
You are so right, Andrew! A quick Google search tells me he is worth 220 million USD! This is a pittance compared to the GDP of Serbia which was 61 billion USD last year, but still works out at over 1 million USD per cm of height which is pretty good if you’re 6 foot two.
