Horrified to read this article in Stuff this week.
I’ve included the entire article because actually there’s some real information in there amongst the journalistic butchery. I feel as if some scientist has spent time explaining to Raffaella about comets but then she has produced this piece in a combination of laziness, ignorance, and a desire for something click-baitey, and this has then been pounced on by the equally venal editor to generate the headline.
I messaged the local astronomy society to see if they could send in a correction to the article – a retraction or acknowledgment of error would be too much to hope for, but a letter to the editor is surely called for? This was the response I got.
So, a complete misunderstanding of what I was asking for, and next level mansplaining to boot. (Did I mention I did astrophysics at university?) At least he thought he was being helpful.
