Got to work this morning to find I’ve been assigned to an all day gyne list – a specialty I don’t normally anaesthetise for – which is a planned long day, because they’re teaching a course for surgeons via a video link. Management assured the team that everyone had been informed, but neither I nor the anaesthetic tech knew anything about it. Our first patient is obese, I have a trainee tech, the place is riddled with surgeons, and there’s a med student breathing down my neck. I’m all ready to resign and it’s not even 8 am.

Well, my tech was a pleasure to work with, the med student was refreshing, the surgeon bought me a coffee, there was left over free food, and the work has been nicely undemanding. Glad I never got around to sending that resignation letter. Might keep it on file just in case, though…
