Actually the mammogram report was “NAD”, meaning “No Abnormality Detected.”
At Med School the joke used to be that it stood for “Not Actually Done”, meaning you were lying about having done that particular part of the patient’s examination, and were just banking on it being normal. Unfortunately, a friend of mine thought that was what the acronym really was. It was only when she was taken aside by a kindly but concerned consultant physician a couple of years later, when he’d read her admission note for a patient with pneumonia, where she’d written “PV and PR – NAD” who then told her that it wasn’t necessary to do a pelvic and rectal exam for every patient, that the penny finally dropped. I guess all the other consultants before him just thought she was being really thorough.
