Checked out of our lovely accommodation in Omapere and drove back up the Hokianga Harbour to Rawene, where we are staying the next two nights.
Did another 90 minute walk to the Wairere Boulders while we waited until 4pm for our check in.
I have come to the depressing realization that I’m going to put weight on over these holidays, with all the eating and drinking I’m doing. One little walk every couple of days isn’t going to be enough to fend off those extra calories. And being a woman of a certain vintage, it’s all going to go to my waist. This means I’m going to have to finally cave to the inevitable – those medium scrub pants that have been getting tighter and tighter just aren’t going to work for me any more. Unfortunately, I haven’t grown any taller, so moving up to the large sized pants is going to mean the cuffs dragging along the ground behind me in theatre, picking up blood, bits of stray fat, scalpels, needles, and any other sort of crap (including crap) that ends up on the operating room floor. I hope you’re happy, theatre uniform manufacturers!
In the meantime, Simon has been doing these extra walks on top of his usual runs, and has been deprived of his usual 3 am pie fix, so he’s actually losing weight. It is as my father always said, in a misguided attempt to cheer me up : life isn’t fair.
It doesn’t help that the place we are staying at has one of those fun fair mirrors that makes everyone look short and fat like a hobbit. At least I think that’s what’s going on…
