After my orthopaedic trauma list finished the other day, the registrar told me that the music I’d been playing was actually good for operating to. Mostly he’s pretty relaxed about the music people play in theatre, apart from one of his bosses who likes to listen to heavy metal whilst operating. I suppose it fits in with the hammers and assorted power tools aspects of orthopaedics, but I wouldn’t find it a pleasant working atmosphere I must admit. However, he said the very worst music he’s been forced to listen to was chosen by a patient for surgery done under local anaesthetic. The reg shuddered when he told us about it, so it obviously still affects him, even some years later. It was the soundtrack to “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. I must say I was mystified. I haven’t listened to the soundtrack specifically but I saw the movie and don’t remember the songs being that bad. Too many bouzouki players? One mans meat is another mans poison I guess.
