A group of us did a big walk last night, designed and led by a friend of ours.
It was a giant loop starting and ending at our house.
The entire route was within 5 k of my house as the crow flies, but half of the track I’d never been on before. It was amazing. Wildlife we encountered (mostly by their calls) included: kiwi (in Zealandia); tui; kaka; morepork; and frogs.
Wellington is jam packed with green spaces – although to be fair much of that is so steep as to be very hard to get to. I must say my thighs felt every one of those 685 metres of elevation gained. The doggies didn’t seem bothered though. They were running backwards and forwards between us the whole way, and were still up for more by the time we limped home four hours later. Mind you, they have four legs instead of two, which immediately halves the work load. Then they only weigh about a tenth of what we do. No wonder they were so full of energy. They don’t know what work is.
