Papped

Cycling home this afternoon along the waterfront, another beautiful day here in the capital city. Plenty of bikes, scooters, skateboards, prams, and pedestrians around. As I cycled past one older woman who was sitting on the edge of the pier, she pointed her phone at me and took a photo. I was quite taken aback. There was no other interaction or acknowledgement from her at all, I’ve got no idea why she took my picture. Was it “stylish cyclist shows the fashionable side of modern green commuting” or was it more “selfish and entitled cyclist speeds dangerously past waterfront pedestrians” or even “reckless cyclist tries to kill us all by failing to socially distance with no mask”? I guess I could have just stopped and asked her but by the time I’d thought of it she was too far behind (not that I was going too fast, I hasten to add – just that my brain was particularly slow today).
