Inside

Working from home today. Not normally a viable proposition for an anaesthetist, but Friday is my nonclinical day, and my boss has said the newsletter at this stage is an essential service, so I was allowed to get it done away from the hospital. Heaven. I am actually up at Waikanae because I had to deliver the dogs up here, so I’m not really cheating the lockdown. This is the view from where I am writing.

Not bad for a home office. It’s lovely to have 80% of the family here, plus the schnoodles. You’d think the dogs would be really happy with all this company around, but actually they’ve been fighting each other like never before. Why have they decided to wait until lockdown to figure out which one was the alpha? I’m wondering if it’s just that they’ve noticed the tension around the place. For example, I just mentioned out loud that I hope the hospital doesn’t cancel the leave I have booked for Easter week, and my husband said “Why would you bother taking leave? You can’t go anywhere.” I was astounded. Did the soldiers in the trenches in WW1 ever turn down their furlough? No they didn’t, because life on the front line is tenuous, stressful and crap. Just because he’s living the life of Reilly as a GP – I don’t think he’s seen an actual live physical patient in over a week.

Our neighbours dogs started kicking up a ruckus 2 days ago – up until then we didn’t even know they had pets let alone dogs and they’ve been our neighbours for 2 months.. ..
