There are certainly times when a police state seems not such a bad thing, for example when some lowlife steals an ICU nurses ebike while she’s in the hospital doing a night shift, or when another moron breaks into  a junior doctor’s car (both of these events occurring on NZs first night of lockdown), or when one of the world’s most influential countries seriously talks about putting ‘freedom’ and the economy over peoples lives. Of course, China did try to keep the whole shameful secret of Coronavirus under wraps initially, and muzzle the original whistleblowers – but no system’s perfect.
