Just saw a couple of Royal Spoonbills having a go at each other. Well, to be fair, it looked like one was the main aggressor, although I didn’t see what the other bird did to raise its ire before I got there. The angry bird looked quite majestic, with the feathers on its head all standing up, and flapping its wings in an aggressive manner. All very impressive but this sort of behaviour is not very regal and won’t win any favours when it comes to the Bird Of The Year competition later this year. Calm and serene is what the judges are looking for, I’m sure. It’s not enough to be New Zealand’s only cutlery themed bird.
