Flex (verb)
To flex on someone is to ostentatiously demonstrate your superiority to them. I thought this was a new use for the word flex but today I heard “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” by Will Smith on my daughter’s Billiards Spotify playlist and he used the phrase, and that song must be getting on for twenty years old (Eds note: released in 1997 actually).
This demonstrates either that there’s nothing new under the sun, or else that I have never ever been hip. Or possibly both.
A new twist is the phrase “weird flex, but OK”, which I quite like as a sarcastic little dig.
