Naive

I’ve spent the day (when not saving lives, obvs) trawling through my old photos to find evidence that I owned the watches and jewellery I say I did. My phone is full of pictures of my children, my dogs, scenery, my husband – and hardly any of me. Clearly the modern habit of taking selfies has passed me by.
I did actually find a picture of my earring collection, which I now remember taking a couple of years ago as protection in case I ever got robbed. Oh the irony! If I’d only turned the phone five degrees to the left and right I would have captured all the stuff that’s now missing. For some reason I couldn’t imagine anyone taking my watches or gold chains.
If your daughter had found an expensive watch, wouldn’t you take a photo of her with it before handing it in to the police? Or even, once you got it back? Or at any time in the five frigging years since ffs?? I’m so stupid I’m afraid I ought to be institutionalized for my own safety.
