Hi All,

I’m sure you are all busy with your own flooding stories so I’ll keep it short. The week started so well. First of all, Harry managed to arrive on a lovely sunny day in the capital, and, as we all know, you can’t beat Wellington on a good day. I remember thinking this would help combat the image the overseas media would have had of us after Kate and Wills’ visit last year. Sunday was Mothers Day. I lay in bed expectantly until I got bored about 10 am and got up to get my own breakfast. I was the first one up. Teenagers, you’ve got to love them. My husbands technique to avoid that morning-after feeling ( he had a long night on Saturday, screaming for Harry at the Hurricanes match ) is to sleep in until the afternoon. If it wasn’t for my doggies joyous morning greeting, I might have felt quite unloved. I firmly believe that dogs qualify as family members. I remain to be convinced about cats, though. Remember, dog lovers are born, whereas owning a cat is a choice. To make up for my poor haul of gifts, we went and bought a giant telly. Simon should have it going any day now.

Monday was unremarkable apart from my televised appearance at the netball with Jo and Lizzie. My complex patient on Tuesday went well; Mark took time out from managing the case in it’s entirety only to sneeze some germs in my direction. I did end up late to my French class, though, which is a shame because the teacher already doesn’t like me. Thursday started well enough, with the twins on the Stuff website, having been involved in some collaboration between the university and their expensive school, some sort of engineering-lite. Their super clever friend did all the talking, but they did look very decorative in the background. This is the traditional aim of poncey girls school’s anyway, isn’t it? To be an attractive adjunct. The weather did seem a bit wet so as a concession I took my car instead of the scooter, and was then naturally unable to find a park. It was only as the day progressed that the impressive extent of the awful weather was revealed. I note that no commentator has used the phrase “weather bomb” – has this gone out of fashion? No rain today so far so fingers crossed the worse is over. I am unwell with a cold and a cold sore, so feeling sorry for myself. My lip is swollen on one side so I look like a lopsided LiLo.

Wednesday

Sarah is asterixed in the neuro theatre because her patient has been preassessed by the lovely Dr O, who rang me earlier in the week to discuss the case. He is really enjoying being up in Hawkes Bay: nice hospital, nice people, nice weather, sigh! (Two out of three ain’t bad…)

Thursday

I am DA (and, yes, doing the evening session as well )

All sorts of complex cases for Will in OT 10, but We Have A Plan.

Friday

Transphenoidals in neuro: Cathy will banish that BP away.

OK, well, not so short after all, but since no one ever reads this far down I can say whatever I like. Yada Yada Yada.

Enjoy your weekends, and I hope you don’t have too much mopping up to do.
