Still trawling through my back catalogue. These two form a set.

Subject: next weeks schedule

Hi all,

This newsletter brought to you from my iphone using the feeble wifi at the Gatwick Hilton airport hotel which is nowhere near as flash as it sounds unfortunately. Flew into London safely yesterday, off to the Balkans tomorrow with the whole family for a two week Intrepid small group tour from Dubrovnik to Athens. Exploring London today, it looks foggy out the window.

Next week’s schedule has morphed a bit since I first sent it out on Tuesday due to new information so am just giving you the highlights. We have a new locum for the next fortnight, Karen S. I don’t know anything about her but im sure shes been thoroughly vetted and if shes even half as nice as the lovely Kerry H then I’ll be well pleased.

(Eds note: not sure what the highlights were I was referring to but there’s nothing interesting there)

Am going to send this now unedited before I lose my internet connection again.

Joyeaux Pacques.

Hi All,

Well, I’m sadly behind in terms of what’s going on in theatres, having been away for several weeks ( Chris J may have mentioned this already? ). I wrote this weeks schedule about a month ago and Chris has been nurturing it up to it’s delivery last Friday, tweaking things here and there to adjust for new circumstances. The final version is not a million miles from my original, helped in part by the fact that we are strangely well staffed this week. Luxury! Chris had been making plans when I left to staff theatres with cardboard cutouts of anaesthetists, so I’m glad this hasn’t been necessary ( I hope? ). Actually we should probably keep quiet about this, his plan could have appeal in certain quarters and we don’t want to be giving people any ideas.

Some news I have caught up with is that all our part 2 candidates have been invited to the anaesthetic viva part of the exam, which is great. Well done all – the end is in sight! Thus there will be renewed enthusiasm for mock vivas, so best be prepared with a few questions in advance.  I think there are plans for another vivapalooza evening but don’t quote me on that. Sheila will know more. We want to be as helpful as we can – good pass rates mean we continue to get good RMOs applying to work here, leading to an intoxicating spiral of success and general fabulousness which we all want to be part of.

Several people ( ok, one, but maybe people are shy? ) have asked me about my holiday, so I thought I’d better mention it briefly. My family joined a small group tour of the Balkans and Greece, run by Intrepid. It was awesome. I kept my five facebook friends nicely entertained with stories as varied as bathrooms of Montenegro, toilets of Macedonia, and showers of Albania. Unfortunately every story I told ( “I got wet feet” ) was promptly topped by an old family friend, who has travelled extensively to places like Tibet and Nepal – she even married a Sherpa. ( “It was the middle of the night in a snow storm on the top of a mountain pass in Kathmandu, I had cholera so I had to dig myself a longdrop in the rocky frozen ground with a plastic spoon, with pulmonary oedema and a nosebleed…” ). I couldn’t compete. It makes me think that social media is not the easy vehicle for shameless self promotion that I have been led to believe.  Of course the highlight for the kids was visiting the old town in Dubrovnik, where the Game of Thrones is filmed. Something you’ve seen on the telly is always far more real than day to day events,  history, culture, or any of that boring stuff.

Well, best I get back to some real scheduling ( although NB – here on my day off! ). And don’t forget to get your flu vax – not only are you protected as best as possible from this years strains of flu but you also get a lollipop and a free sticker.
