I couldn’t believe my eyes yesterday evening when we saw humpback whales swimming past, only a few hundred meters from our balcony. They were just beyond the reef that encircles the lagoon.
When we saw them again this morning, they were being very active, leaping up and cavorting in quite a different way to what I saw in Alaska a couple of months ago. The difference is I think that up there they were just trying to eat as much as they could to put the weight on for winter, whereas down here they are looking to mate. So, what we’ve been seeing is basically wild sex parties.
