Astonished to discover today from my surgeon that there’s an old English proverb that says a surgeon needs to have “the eyes of an eagle, the heart of a lion, and the hands of a woman”. I think it dates back to before we had anaesthetists to make the whole experience a lot more pleasant for everyone involved. Anyway, we’ve all been calling him “lady hands” since he told us, much to his dismay.
