My poor husband had four phone calls on Saturday morning about a dead patient (rest home, medical centre, funeral home, police). Not sure what the urgency was – clearly the poor old gentleman was beyond medical aid, and he wasn’t going to get any deader. Is the Saturday morning lie-in no longer sacred? GPs don’t get paid enough IMHO.
Just got a couple of spam phone calls myself: the same GP being put through to me twice after she’d asked for the on call orthopaedic registrar. Not sure if the telephonist was trolling me or the GP, or if it was an honest mistake – this isn’t the first time it’s happened (the # numbers have one digit transposed – and, no, I’m not going to tell you what the numbers are. Not that I don’t trust you, but…)
In preparation for future mix ups, I thought it would be useful to “bone up” (geddit??) on referral guidelines for orthopaedics. Many thanks to gomerblog.com for this recent news release. It’s American, but still.
