Back by popular demand! This one’s for you, KF!
By the way, don’t forget that if you’d like to make any comments, you don’t need to put your real email address in. I think it will accept any combination of letters and numbers as long as there’s a single “@“ in there somewhere.

Hi All,
This week got harder and harder to schedule even though there weren’t that many people away. I think I’m going to call this the Jordan Law – if you think a week is going to be easy to schedule you’re just fooling yourself. Many thanks to everyone who has agreed with various levels of graciousness to working during their OPD. Am feeling in real need of a break from all this hard work – unfortunately, I’m not going to get one next week. Am off to Hawaii but the conference schedule looks so hectic that I doubt I’ll get to regret not getting the bikini wax and pedicure that Kirsten has somehow found time to have. I’ve also discovered that Hawaii is 23 hours behind us here in the very futuristic and advanced city of Wellington. This means that if you people let me know of any scheduling cockups that happen during the week, I should be able to fix it up ahead of time. Awesome! Maybe we should set up a permanent base in Hawaii, Chris?
Monday
No cardiac thirds all week I’m afraid. ( NB. Update – except Wed am )
The Keating looong day of abdominal content removal has been cancelled as the patient found the idea of it even less appealing than we did.
Deborah has a patient during her afternoon ortho who has seven reasons listed for having a surgical alert, including the mysterious and rather sinister “other”, so best wishes to her.
A dearth of vascular this week, today replaced by gyne.
An ABR first up on the ENT list. Dr Prior should have time to help get this baby off to sleep before slipping out to ECT for some light relief.
Gyne onc have just this morning requested a late finish in OT 11. Sorry, Sheila. Cecile has some complicated reason for this which I’m sure she’ll be happy to explain.
Another tricky paed on the dental list lures Mark A out of OPD by special request.
Some last minute shuffling also required to bring Alan in from Kene to preassessment. Oh to be in demand!
Tuesday
Linda is DA. Is this your first time? Enjoy! A great way to get your 10,000 steps a day, so Aruntha tells me.
ENT cancelled in OT 10, initially bagsed by ortho, now who knows? Gyne would be a good bet.( Update – it is indeed gyne, but morning only, letting Bob out to general acutes in the pm ).
Sally doubled up in gyne onc so she can get out to the obs high risk MDT meeting which has somehow become something else I have to provide an anaesthetist for in our rapidly expanding service.
Elaine has a glamorous MH patient to see in preassessment before leaving the rest of the riff raff to Jeremy.
Wednesday
Some last minute leave cancellation allows Sheila to be cardiac third this morning, before going back to bums and bowels in OT 6 in the pm.
Matt P, SNAG tech and new father, will try and stay awake long enough to run SIM teaching in the pm
Thursday
Paul D is DA. You’ve drawn the short straw as even with a locum and several people working during their OPD, we’re looking a bit thin on the ground.
Gyne in OT11 have again just this morning requested a 5pm finish in here, because Fale is afraid of “the lady with the clipboard”. With Mark S also requesting a 5pm finish ( Jeremy working during his OPD ) , AKS in OT 4 is categorically not allowed to finish late in OT 4 today. This comes from the top so accept no nonsense, Linda.
Paeds in the neuro list again, more craniofacials to get Charles into the newspaper.
Neale M working during his OPD in the afternoon down in radiology, his morning list in there likely to overrun because they have expert radiologists from out of town coming in to do clever things with a couple of tricky cases. Joseph in there too to see what all the fuss is about.
Friday
As Chris and I are both away, Will draws the short straw to replace us in the scheduling office for the day.
105 mins to the first ball being bowled: please get your complaints in early this week.
Ciao,
Kirsty.
