In the theatre staff room this morning, getting a coffee before my list started. The phone started ringing, and I jokingly said to the only other person in there, a surgeon, “never ever answer the phone!”, because who hasn’t had that experience of answering the phone in an unfamiliar place, and then find yourself having to go and search for some person you’ve never heard of? Except, actually, I don’t think this surgeon had ever had that experience, because he just looked at me blankly until I left the room. Awkward.
