A now for some more history

And this time it’s netball. What I really need to do is undertake a survey to see whether anyone has any interest in old netball reports/ scheduling emails/ newsletter excerpts. Can I be bothered, though? And, do I really care?

Hi Everyone,

An update on whom I’m expecting for tomorrow nights game at 6.20 against Mellie. Hard to think about netball when the sun is shining, the cicadas are chirping, and the Blackcaps are suffering another catastrophic batting collapse:

Deane
Sarah Murphy
Ineke for the first 3/4 before she has to leave Myself Kate probably not as her husband likely to be home late after a looooong case with Mr Keating Jonny?
Romilla?
Tom?
Tim?

Doesn’t look like a full team so far, if the possibles could confirm one way or the other that would be great, for everyone else, we’ve already qualified for the semis so this could be your last chance for a relatively low pressure game so take the opportunity while you can!

Cheers,
Kirsty.

Please please please! I don’t want to leave the cricket early and then find we don’t have enough players:-(

Hmmm…I didn’t quite realise how desperate that sounded…

What an awesome day! Turned up to the cricket in nice work clothes, thinking I’ll watch till the end of the game, then spend some time at the office after lunch ( to make up for skiving off early on Friday ). But it wasn’t to be! A fantastic days cricket. There was milestone after milestone, we kept having to get up for standing ovations as records kept falling. There was a bunch of us there from work, not sure who was keeping theatres going…Then I had to leave 30 mins from the end to get to netball on time. We were fortunate to be able to field a full team tonight, in extremely hot and humid conditions. Deane (C) roped in his twin brother Scott (D) to play, and Titch was home in time for Kate (A) to make it for the whole game. Sarah was there, also on attack as we had only two boys, and then Ineke turned up almost on time. I was very glad to see her as I had to play centre for the first quarter and my fitness really isn’t up to a whole game of it.

Our opponents were, very unexpectedly, Last Minute, which made me very nervous. What happened to Mellie? In fact, however, I don’t think I recognised a single one of their players which was weird as we only played them a few weeks ago. Obviously a variable feast, or a large pool of random players to draw from. This team seemed to be made up of big bulky guys and small bad tempered girls. Jane was the ref today, not up to her usual standard I thought, lots of random calls, her interpretation of the replay rule seemed most arbitrary. They were another team who favoured two pointers over reliable one pointers, which was the tactic we used to great effect. In fact, we lead from the very first quarter ( both teams starting a player down, and both latecomers arriving during that first quarter ), and we continued to lead to a surprisingly one sided victory 46:27.

Apparently they will know by the end of tonights games who is going to be playing who in the semifinals next week. Last week they told us it was going to be last minute but who knows?

Hopefully we will have some of our regulars back so we can be more confident we can field a full team. Also hoping Joe will be able to take over team management as I can’t take the pressure.

Thanks for making it tonight, guys, great game!

Kirsty.
