If I time my arrival at work right, which is usually about ten minutes after I’m supposed to be there, I end up in the changing room with a bunch of Filipino nurses. I love to hear them chattering away to each other in Tagalog. Every now and again I’ll recognize a loan word from English – basketball, high school, BBQ. And did you know we have some loan words in English from Tagalog? Not many but they include yo yo, boondocks, and cooties. Three of the most fabulous words we’ve got IMHO. You can even learn Tagalog in Wellington – there are classes you can take. Wouldn’t life be dull if everyone was the same? Is that what a White Supremacist’s fantasy is? Boring.
